I use blogger for my class blog. I have played with wordpress, but I feel like it is not as intuitive for me. I really like how I can add html into my sidebars easily, as well as putting about anything on my posts. It certainly doesn't hurt that it is free.

I have moved away from edublogs this year too, because of the way they keep changing the rules. As a Victorian, I can access globalstudent.org.au, which is actually Edublogs Campus paid for by the Victorian government.
Good luck with Blogger - it seems to have some great features.
